Malott's Knee Ends Edmonton UFC Main Event as Bishop Wins First PFL Women's Flyweight Title

Two promotions, two nights, and two results that shift their divisions. On Saturday, October 17, Mike Malott closed out UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott at Rogers Place in Edmonton by knocking out Joaquin Buckley with a knee at 2:32 of the second round. One fight earlier, Jasmine Jasudavicius won a unanimous decision over Erin Blanchfield, ranked one place above her, to give the home crowd back-to-back Canadian wins to finish the night.

The night before, at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Jena Bishop beat Liz Carmouche to become the first PFL women’s flyweight world champion. Carmouche is one of the most experienced fighters in women’s MMA, a former Bellator champion and the 2025 PFL World Tournament winner, so Bishop had to beat a proven opponent to take the belt.

For people who train, the weekend had plenty to learn from. One fight showed how a single clean strike can end things. Another showed that steady output across fifteen minutes can beat a higher-ranked opponent. And at PFL Chicago, grappling decided a world title.
