While big money fights and boxing matches have been the main focus for the Irish superstar lately, it appears he’s ready to chase a title again with hopes to face UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira after Saturday night is finished.
“Yes,” McGregor answered when asked if he wanted Oliveira next at the UFC 264 pre-fight press conference. “We’re going to fill out the Allegiant Stadium, the Death Star.”
Following that answer, UFC president Dana White said that the promotion would definitely take a card to the new Allegiant Stadium, which serves as the home to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, but he didn’t commit to an exact timeline for that to happen.
Away from the title fight, McGregor also once again addressed the possibility of finishing his trilogy with Nate Diaz after they split a pair of bouts back in 2016.
At that time, both card featuring McGregor vs. Diaz were two of the most successful events in UFC history with huge live gates matched by massive sales on pay-per-view. Despite the success of those two shows, McGregor and Diaz have somehow avoided each other in the five years following their last battle at UFC 202.
While there’s no telling how soon or how far away a third fight between them might be, McGregor has never forgotten about Diaz and he has every intention of finishing that trilogy down the road.
“It’s for sure going to happen,” McGregor said about facing Diaz again. “It must happen. We’re 1-1. It must happen. It will happen. I look forward to the day.”
After keeping things cordial with Poirier back in January and then suffering a second-round knockout loss, McGregor seemed to get his edge back because he was anything but friendly during the press conference on Thursday.
While most of his energy was spent taking shots at Poirier, McGregor appeared ready to take on the world and that’s the exact attitude he had for anyone else standing in his way after Saturday night.
“F*ck the whole roster,” McGregor shouted. “F*ck the entire roster. I see the way it is. You try and be nice to them. You try to help them out, out of pity but f*ck them all now. It is what it is. That’s it. I’m coming for all them.”
