One of the things that I enjoy is the demonstration of Japanese kobudo. Daito Ryu is always of interest in these demonstrations as it is (as claimed) one of the oldest ryu-ha in existence. Precursor to modern day Aikido, Daito Ryu was studied by the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, and serves as the technical basis for his refinements and philosophical evolution to create Aiki Budo and then Aikido. Ueshiba received the rare Kyoji Dairi teaching license from Daito Ryu headmaster, Sokaku Takeda, in 1922. Here is a demonstration of Daito Ryu from the 42nd Japanese Kobudo Demonstration this year.
